The Object Scaling Tool

Scaling Beyond My Limits

By: Garrett Johnston

-The Initial Tool-

In the beginning, there was the idea to make a tool that would scale based on the player's perspective. I created this tool using a raycast that scaled the object based on distance from the player.  I believe this added a captivating effect adds depth, and realism to virtual environments. I thought there would be a lot of cool possibilities using this tool within the game.

-The Switcharoo-

The initial concept of scaling objects based on player perspective, while super cool, presented some challenges in terms of implementation and overall fluidity within the game. This change allowed a smoother and more user-friendly scaling mechanic and was just overall much easier to use.

-The Movement Implementation-

Based on insightful feedback, it became clear that introducing a way to move objects forward and backward was crucial. This enhancement not only elevates gameplay but also unlocks a lot of possibilities for exciting puzzle designs, expanding the creative potential within the game.

Overall, this was a very difficult but valuable learning experience. The creation of this mechanic definitely improved my skills in programming and the tool was really fun to see in action after all the effort. The tool is still a work in progress and has some bugs but I look forward to its polished end result.
